Datavant is hiring for the Health Information Specialist I role across Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas, where entry-level talent processes medical record requests with precision and care.

About the Role

This full-time Health Information Specialist I opportunity at Datavant centers on managing release-of-information work for patient medical records inside high-volume production settings. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and typically involves dual monitors for documentation across systems. Base pay stands at $15 per hour, and full benefits include PTO, health, vision, and dental insurance, a 401k savings plan, and tuition assistance. You will commute among locations as needed, may work overtime in peak periods, and must continually protect privacy so that only authorized parties receive information and every release aligns with the request, authorizations, company policy, and HIPAA rules.

What You'll Do

  • Process incoming patient health-information requests in line with Datavant and facility procedures while delivering accurate, high-quality results and strong service
  • Shield confidential details at all times and confirm compliance with privacy regulations that guard against any unauthorized release
  • Prepare and organize new patient charts from paper or electronic sources, verify standard order and completeness, and create digital images for the electronic medical record
  • Retrieve and transmit records to fulfill both internal and external requests, answer inbound and outbound calls, aid walk-in visitors, and handle supporting tasks such as faxes, mail, and data entry
  • Keep current on company and facility software, report volume shifts or site issues to leadership, meet site-specific productivity targets, schedule pick-ups when required, follow all codes of conduct, and perform other assigned duties

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to commute between sites as needed and to work overtime during peak seasons
  • Basic computer skills plus comfort with phones, fax machines, printers, and standard office equipment
  • Professional verbal and written English communication, strong data-entry accuracy, and a detail-oriented focus on compliant medical-record content
  • Capacity to organize multiple tasks, work with minimal supervision, adapt to shifting priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced setting

Preferred experience includes a healthcare background, prior production or metric-driven work, in-person customer service, relationship-building with on-site clients, and a willingness to suggest process improvements.

Why Join Datavant
