System & Network Engineer (Level II)

Prime System Solutions is seeking a skilled System & Network Engineer (Level II) to join our team in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. This is a full-time remote position offering the flexibility to work from anywhere whilst supporting mission-critical infrastructure and network operations.

Position Summary

As a System & Network Engineer Level II, you'll take ownership of designing, implementing, and maintaining robust IT infrastructure that powers our operations. This mid-level role bridges technical execution and strategic infrastructure planning, ideal for an engineer ready to deepen their expertise and lead smaller projects. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise system performance, resolve complex technical challenges, and ensure our network remains secure and resilient.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and connectivity solutions
• Deploy, configure, and maintain servers and virtualisation platforms in production environments
• Monitor system and network health using industry-standard tools; diagnose and resolve performance issues proactively
• Manage user access controls, authentication systems, and security policies across infrastructure
• Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning; conduct testing and documentation
• Collaborate on infrastructure upgrades and technology refresh cycles
• Provide technical guidance to junior team members when needed
• Document configurations, procedures, and runbooks to ensure consistency and knowledge transfer

Requirements

• 4–7 years of professional experience in systems administration or network engineering
• Strong hands-on knowledge of enterprise networking (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls)
• Proficiency with virtualisation platforms and hypervisors in production settings
• Experience managing Windows Server and/or Linux environments
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and hybrid infrastructure architectures
• Solid understanding of network security, SSL/TLS, VPN protocols, and compliance standards
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CCNA, or Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator valued
• Strong troubleshooting mindset, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure
• Excellent communication skills and experience working in collaborative team environments
