Prime System Solutions is looking for a System & Network Engineer (Level-I) to support our IT infrastructure operations in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. This is a full-time remote position, ideal for an early-career engineer ready to build hands-on expertise in system administration and network management within a growing technology organisation.
What This Role Involves
You'll take ownership of day-to-day system and network operations, bridging technical support with infrastructure engineering. In this System & Network Engineer (Level-I) role, you'll monitor enterprise systems, respond to infrastructure incidents, assist with deployments, and contribute to the reliability and security of our IT estate. You'll work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, implement improvements, and ensure our systems perform at their best.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor servers, network devices, and IT infrastructure for performance, availability, and security
- Investigate and resolve system outages, connectivity issues, and hardware failures
- Assist in installing, configuring, and testing network equipment and server applications
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures
- Apply security patches and perform routine maintenance on systems and network infrastructure
- Provide technical support to internal teams and contribute to knowledge base development
- Participate in on-call rotation and incident response as required
Requirements
- Solid understanding of server operating systems such as Windows Server or Linux
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, DNS, DHCP, and firewalls
- Experience with system monitoring, remote access tools, and virtualisation platforms
- Proven ability to diagnose technical problems and implement solutions methodically
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
- CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent certification (or relevant hands-on experience)
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
