This full-time position offers the opportunity to pursue in-depth investigations that expose critical issues and hold public officials accountable across Maryland communities.

About the Role

Spotlight on Maryland produces high-impact investigative stories across television, digital platforms, social media, and print. In this role, you'll move beyond routine coverage to uncover stories that serve the public interest, asking tough, thought-provoking questions of elected leaders and government officials while delivering accountability journalism that drives meaningful change.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, research, and execute investigative story ideas that expose problems and serve the public interest
  • Conduct extensive document research, public records analysis, and in-depth source interviews
  • Ask smart, challenging questions of elected leaders, government officials, and other sources
  • Produce compelling stories optimized for multiple platforms—television, digital, social media, and print
  • Verify information thoroughly and fact-check claims from multiple sources
  • Build and maintain relationships with sources in government, law enforcement, and the community
  • Collaborate with editors and multimedia team members to tell complex stories effectively
  • Meet editorial deadlines while upholding rigorous investigative and ethical standards

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience in investigative reporting or accountability journalism
  • Excellent interviewing skills and ability to ask probing, incisive questions
  • Strong research, writing, and editing abilities
  • Background reporting on government, politics, or public policy
  • Proficiency in digital storytelling and social media platforms
  • Commitment to accuracy, fairness, and transparency in journalism
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to mentor less experienced reporters
