Leyden High School District 212 is hiring a full-time Special Education Teacher Assistant and Job Coach for West Leyden High School. In this role, you'll support students with disabilities in building academic skills and preparing for meaningful employment and independent living.
About the Role
As a Special Education Teacher Assistant / Job Coach, you bridge classroom learning and real-world employment. You'll work alongside special education staff to provide direct instruction, behavior support, and hands-on job coaching in school and community settings, helping students with disabilities transition into the workforce and develop lasting vocational independence.
Core Duties
- Provide direct instructional support to students with disabilities under teacher supervision
- Coach students in job-specific skills, workplace behavior, and employment readiness
- Support students in community-based work experiences and internships
- Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and transition goals
- Document and monitor student progress toward academic and vocational objectives
- Manage classroom routines, student supervision, and behavioral support
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, employers, and families on student outcomes
- Maintain confidential records and communicate progress to the special education team
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to work effectively with students with varying disabilities and support needs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Reliability, professionalism, and commitment to student success
- Capacity to assist and support students with physical needs as required
- Willingness to pass a background check
- Experience with special education or job coaching preferred
