Software Engineer – OpenStack

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking a Software Engineer with OpenStack expertise. Our client is a globally distributed team building cloud infrastructure solutions used across enterprise, public cloud, and emerging technology sectors. This is a remote role open to candidates in the United Kingdom and United States, with occasional international travel for team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Python-based automation tools for deploying and managing OpenStack and Ceph environments
• Develop high-quality code to create new features and resolve technical issues
• Collaborate with a distributed engineering team across multiple time zones
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers
• Ensure platform success across multiple hardware architectures including x86, ARM64, s390x, and Power
• Participate in team meetings and events requiring international travel 2-4 weeks per year
• Contribute to infrastructure-as-code initiatives and distributed systems projects

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or equivalent practical experience
• Strong Python development skills with a focus on clean, maintainable code
• Experience or demonstrated interest in two or more of: OpenStack, Ceph, Kubernetes, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, Go, C, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Debian packaging, or scalable web services
• Background working with non-x86 architectures (ARM64, s390x, Power) strongly preferred
• Knowledge of cloud networking technologies including OVN and Open vSwitch
• Excellent collaboration skills and comfort working in a distributed team environment
• Self-motivated, articulate, and accountable with strong soft skills
• Passion for open-source software and the software-defined datacenter ecosystem
