About This Opportunity

We are representing a leading developer tools organization seeking a Senior Test Automation Engineer to own and evolve their automated testing platform for a core CI/CD product. This is a high-impact engineering role where you'll write code that removes friction, builds frameworks that enable product teams to ship with confidence, and set the technical direction for quality across a complex, enterprise-grade platform.

If you prefer building tools and automating processes over maintaining legacy test suites, and you want to work on infrastructure that supports millions of users worldwide, we want to hear from you.

Location: Berlin, Munich, or Remote (Germany-based)

Responsibilities

You will own the quality engineering platform for a feature-rich continuous integration product used by enterprise teams globally. This is not a manual testing position—you'll spend your time writing code, building tooling, and making the developer experience measurably better.

  • Evolve the automated testing platform, including frameworks, infrastructure, reporting systems, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Identify and eliminate slow, manual, or fragile parts of the engineering workflow—such as release automation, feedback loops, and test flakiness—and fix them at the root
  • Integrate practical AI approaches into the quality workflow for test generation with guardrails, automated failure triage, and self-healing tests
  • Collaborate directly with product teams to help them write and own their tests, review contributions, and evangelize solid test design practices
  • Investigate failures and flakiness across both test code and product code to drive issues to resolution
  • Participate in all stages of product development, from initial design through release, interacting with internal and external users
  • Lead the technical direction for quality on a large-scale product used by enterprise development teams

What We're Looking For

Must-have technical skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in Kotlin or Java, with solid understanding of object-oriented design and design patterns
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining test automation for complex, mission-critical backends, web services, or desktop applications
  • Proficiency with testing frameworks (TestNG or JUnit) and browser automation tools (Selenium WebDriver, Selenide, or Playwright)
  • Experience with build automation tools such as Gradle or Maven
  • Working knowledge of containerization using Docker or Podman
  • Experience with reporting tools like Allure
  • Command of Git and solid understanding of software testing principles and concurrent programming concepts
  • Proven track record of creating internal platform tools or developer-experience improvements that measurably speed up engineering workflows
  • Fluency in spoken and written English

Required approach and mindset:

  • Engineer's approach to quality—preferring to build tools and automate processes rather than maintain legacy tasks
  • Strong architectural judgment and commitment to writing clean, maintainable code
  • Practical curiosity about AI, with clear perspective on where it genuinely helps and where it falls short
  • Ability to work independently without formal specifications, understand the product deeply, and determine what matters most
  • Clear, direct communication skills and initiative to engage developers and persuade teams to improve their workflows
  • Interest in mentoring colleagues, setting technical standards, and sharing knowledge across teams
