Senior Specialist, Restricted Substances

AbbVie seeks a Senior Specialist, Restricted Substances for its North Chicago, Lake County headquarters—a full-time position leading the development, implementation, and maintenance of global restricted substances management programs. About the Role

The Senior Specialist, Restricted Substances at AbbVie's North Chicago location owns the restricted substances management (RSM) function end-to-end. You'll independently develop and manage compliance frameworks, navigate evolving international regulations, and ensure AbbVie's products and supply chains meet all applicable material restrictions and disclosure requirements worldwide.

What You'll Do

• Design, implement, and maintain compliance programs for EU REACH, EU RoHS, US Conflict Minerals, China New Chemical Registration, Canadian Chemical Management Plan, and Proposition 65 requirements
• Lead coordination with procurement, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory affairs to deploy RSM policies and procedures across the organization
• Track regulatory developments and assess implications for products and supply chain; develop mitigation strategies
• Conduct supplier assessments and manage restricted substances documentation, testing, and traceability systems
• Create training materials and drive organizational awareness of restricted substances obligations and compliance practices
• Prepare regulatory filings, respond to agency inquiries, and manage government correspondence
• Build and maintain compliance records, generate performance metrics, and report to internal and external stakeholders

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Toxicology, or equivalent field
• 7+ years of professional experience in restricted substances management, chemical regulation, or related compliance role
• Strong technical knowledge of EU REACH, RoHS, Conflict Minerals, and emerging restrictions
• Excellent technical and regulatory writing skills for documentation and agency submissions
• Ability to manage complex, multi-faceted regulatory initiatives independently and concurrently
• Experience managing supplier compliance programs and supply chain assessment preferred
• Superior organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
