Leonardo DRS, Inc. is seeking a Principal Program Manager to lead strategic initiatives within our Electro Optical Infrared Systems division at our Melbourne, Brevard County, Florida headquarters. This is a full-time position offering a 9/80 flexible work schedule.
About the Role
As Principal Program Manager, you will oversee complex, mission-critical programs that deliver infrared and electro-optical solutions to military and defense customers. You'll serve as the strategic bridge between engineering teams, stakeholders, and customers, driving programs from conception through production and sustainment. Your leadership will ensure delivery of cutting-edge optical and thermal systems that protect soldiers, enhance ground vehicle capabilities, and equip airborne platforms.
What You'll Do
- Define and execute program strategy, scope, and roadmaps for infrared and electro-optical system development and production
- Lead cross-functional teams across EOIS locations in Dallas, Austin, Melbourne, and Cypress to meet aggressive timelines and technical requirements
- Manage budgets, schedules, risk, and stakeholder expectations on programs ranging from concept to full production
- Coordinate with military and defense customers to understand requirements and translate them into actionable development plans
- Champion continuous improvement in program execution, quality, and operational efficiency
- Oversee contract compliance, reporting, and customer satisfaction metrics
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of program management experience, including 5+ years at the principal or senior level
- Demonstrated success leading complex defense or aerospace programs with cross-functional teams
- Strong understanding of infrared systems, electro-optical technologies, or related sensor systems
- Expertise in program planning, risk management, cost and schedule control, and earned value management
- Secret-level security clearance or the ability to obtain one
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
