About the Role

As Principal Data Scientist at Leonardo DRS, Inc., you'll drive technical strategy and innovation across complex datasets that power next-generation radar solutions, counter-drone systems, and border surveillance platforms. This is a full-time position requiring both individual technical excellence and leadership across data science teams and cross-functional engineering partnerships.

What You'll Do

• Design and develop advanced machine learning models and statistical analyses for proprietary radar system optimization and performance prediction
• Lead data architecture and pipeline development to handle large-scale sensor data from tactical systems and field deployments
• Establish data science best practices, standards, and methodologies across teams working on defense and avionics systems
• Collaborate with signal processing, systems engineering, and product teams to translate business and technical requirements into analytical solutions
• Mentor and guide junior data scientists and analysts, fostering technical growth and innovation in the organization
• Evaluate emerging tools, frameworks, and techniques to enhance analytical capabilities and computational efficiency
• Document findings and communicate complex results to technical and non-technical stakeholders

What We're Looking For

• Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or related field, or equivalent professional experience demonstrating mastery
• 10+ years of professional experience in data science, machine learning engineering, or advanced analytics
• Proven expertise developing, deploying, and maintaining production machine learning systems at scale
• Strong programming skills in Python, C++, Java, or similar languages; experience with data pipeline tools and cloud platforms
• Solid foundation in statistics, experimental design, and rigorous model validation techniques
• Experience leading technical teams, mentoring engineers, or driving architectural decisions in data-intensive environments
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences and influence cross-functional decisions
• U.S. citizenship or ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances
