Senior Software Developer (JCP Core Foundation Licensing and Quotation)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential enterprise software organization in their search for a Senior Software Developer to own and evolve the backend systems that manage licensing, entitlements, quotations, and billing. This role sits at the core of the commercial infrastructure, where accuracy and reliability directly impact revenue. You will design distributed systems that handle complex entitlement logic, usage metering, and billing workflows across millions of users and hundreds of thousands of organizations.

This is a senior-level backend engineering position based in Berlin, Munich, or available fully remote within Germany.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend services that determine customer entitlements, enforce usage quotas, and calculate billing accurately
• Own end-to-end data flows from ingesting purchase and licensing data through to consumption recording and accounting
• Evolve the domain model to support new commercial structures, including hybrid seat-based and usage-based pricing models
• Design integrations with external systems ensuring correctness through idempotency, reconciliation, and eventual consistency patterns
• Plan and execute live data migrations using feature flags, dual writes, backfills, and staged verification without service downtime
• Build comprehensive observability by defining system invariants, metrics, and alerts to detect divergence before customer impact
• Design internal APIs with explicit versioning, backward compatibility, and excellent developer experience for consuming teams
• Improve system performance and reliability under continuous production load while decommissioning legacy components
• Write integration tests against real dependencies and maintain reliable test infrastructure
• Investigate production incidents, determine root causes, and implement lasting fixes

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Proven track record building and operating backend services on the JVM platform using Kotlin or Java
• Solid working knowledge of relational databases including transactions, isolation levels, locking, indexing, and live schema migrations (PostgreSQL preferred)
• Deep understanding of distributed systems patterns: idempotency, retry strategies, eventual consistency, and data reconciliation
• Practical experience executing live data migrations or system changes without downtime using feature flags and staged rollouts
• Experience designing versioned, backward-compatible APIs for other engineering teams
• Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures and message brokers like Kafka
• Ability to diagnose, debug, and resolve production incidents in complex environments
• Proficiency in both written and spoken English
