About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential hospitality technology organization with operations across multiple European markets. We are seeking a (Senior) Manager Tax with a strong focus on VAT/sales tax to join their finance function in Munich.

In this role, you will own VAT compliance and advisory across an international, growing group—spanning ongoing compliance, process and system design, and supporting tax audits. You will collaborate closely with local accounting teams, internal stakeholders, and external advisors to ensure tax compliance and build scalable, automated structures.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee VAT compliance across all entities and jurisdictions, including Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, and additional markets
  • Prepare and review VAT returns, annual declarations, intra-community reports, and other VAT reporting obligations (e.g., SII in Spain) in coordination with local teams
  • Serve as internal point of contact for VAT questions and assess new matters such as platform models, cross-border services, and chain transactions
  • Design VAT-compliant invoicing and booking processes and eliminate systemic error sources at their root (e.g., invoice logic, entity assignment, account determination)
  • Partner with Accounting, Financial Systems & Automation, and operational teams to translate VAT requirements into systems and automated workflows
  • Develop standards, guidelines, and documentation; contribute to automation and standardization of VAT processes
  • Support VAT audits and special examinations, preparing required documentation
  • Manage external tax advisors effectively, reducing external consulting costs while maintaining quality
  • Assist with adjacent tax matters such as transfer pricing and corporate income tax

What We're Looking For

  • Several years of relevant experience in tax, particularly VAT, ideally in an international environment, tax consultancy, or audit firm
  • Strong knowledge of German and EU VAT law; experience with additional European jurisdictions (e.g., Spain) is a clear advantage
  • Process- and systems-oriented mindset with enthusiasm for addressing root causes rather than isolated cases
  • Experience supporting tax audits or special examinations
  • Passion for continuous improvement and leveraging automation and AI
  • Fluent German and English, with strong communication skills for internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems as well as common productivity tools
