Responsibilities

  • Propose and lead research initiatives in quantum algorithm development for fault-tolerant quantum computing systems; contribute as primary researcher to programs advancing the state of the art in algorithm design
  • Collaborate with external partners to instantiate, validate, and optimize quantum algorithms for applications across life sciences, industrial manufacturing, and sustainability sectors
  • Establish benchmark families and problem instances to validate quantum advantage and post-classical performance
  • Guide simulation efforts and analyze resource requirements for fault-tolerant implementation of quantum algorithms
  • Translate computational tasks into abstract quantum-algorithm specifications and analyze asymptotic performance characteristics
  • Work cross-functionally with compilation and architecture teams to develop explicit algorithm implementations and evaluate resource requirements
  • Lead projects with industrial and research partners, working with domain experts to identify computational challenges and map them to appropriate quantum solutions

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of research experience (academia or industry) in quantum computing, with focus on algorithms and applications
  • Degree in Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science required; PhD in Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science with focus on quantum information theory or quantum computation strongly preferred
  • Deep technical expertise in quantum algorithms and complexity analysis
  • Experience with quantum algorithms and compilation in the fault-tolerant regime preferred
  • Track record of working with academic or industry partners to analyze real-world quantum applications preferred
  • Programming experience in Python, C++, or similar languages
  • Strong collaborative skills with ability to work effectively across departments, sites, and time zones
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment while contributing to broader research programs
  • Scientific leadership qualities with ability to shape open-ended research directions and guide projects from application identification through to detailed resource estimates
  • Excellent communication skills across disciplinary boundaries, moving fluently between applications, mathematical abstractions, and implementation-level analysis
