Senior Product Engineer (f/m/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech client in Berlin that is transforming how European SMEs handle their financial operations. They're seeking a Senior Product Engineer to build sophisticated product experiences in the payroll, tax, and accounting domain.

In this role, you'll own meaningful outcomes rather than just deliverables, shipping features that directly solve customer problems while maintaining high engineering standards. You'll work closely with product and design partners, using cutting-edge tools and methodologies to create value that compounds over time.

Responsibilities

• Ship user-facing features end-to-end from ideation through release and iteration
• Collaborate with Product and Design to transform complex requirements into elegant, scalable solutions
• Improve reliability, performance, and security of financial operations platforms
• Elevate engineering quality through thoughtful code reviews, pair programming, testing, and documentation
• Instrument features with analytics and logging to measure impact and drive rapid iteration
• Own critical product areas with a focus on high-impact improvements
• Balance immediate delivery needs with long-term architectural investments
• Drive simplicity to reduce cognitive load for both users and developers

What We're Looking For

Experience & Mindset:

• 5+ years in software engineering with substantial product-building experience at a startup or high-growth company
• Proven track record of owning features and services end-to-end with measurable customer impact
• Comfortable working with ambiguity and collaborating closely with Product and Design teams
• Ability to turn constraints into focus, manage your own priorities, and leave systems better than you found them
• Experience simplifying complex systems and building comprehensible technical plans
• Comfortable using AI coding tools such as Cursor, Copilot, or Claude, with the ability to audit and test AI-generated code

Technical Skills:

• Strong expertise in at least two of: TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Python
• Solid understanding of Domain Driven Design principles and domain modeling
• Proficiency in testing approaches: unit, integration, and end-to-end; experience with CI/CD, feature flags, and rollout strategies
• Observability practices including logs, metrics, traces; familiarity with SLOs and incident response
• Security fundamentals: authentication/authorization, secrets management, threat modeling, and secure coding practices
