Senior DevOps Engineer

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a well-funded fintech startup in Berlin that's transforming financial operations for small and mid-sized businesses across Europe. This is a senior-level DevOps engineering role where you'll own cloud infrastructure, CI/CD systems, and platform reliability from the ground up.

You'll work directly with founders and engineering teams in a high-autonomy environment, making architectural decisions that impact thousands of business users. This is an opportunity to build scalable systems using modern tooling while balancing rapid iteration with long-term thinking.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain cloud infrastructure with focus on reliability, scalability and security
• Own CI/CD pipelines end-to-end—from design through rollout and continuous improvement
• Drive infrastructure-as-code practices across engineering teams
• Collaborate with product and AI engineers to enable fast, safe and frequent deployments
• Lead incident response, monitor system performance, and conduct post-mortems
• Implement comprehensive observability tooling including logs, metrics and traces
• Ensure security and compliance standards across all environments
• Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term architectural investments
• Reduce complexity and keep systems maintainable for the wider engineering organization

What We're Looking For

Experience & Mindset:

• 5+ years in DevOps, SRE or Cloud Infrastructure roles, ideally at a startup or high-growth company
• Proven track record owning infrastructure end-to-end and driving measurable impact
• Comfortable with ambiguity—you take initiative, manage your own priorities, and improve systems continuously
• Able to turn complexity into simplicity and build plans others can follow
• Experience leveraging AI coding tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude) and validating AI-generated code
• Experience in fast-scaling environments strongly preferred
• German language skills are a strong plus

Technical Skills:

• Strong hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP preferred)
• Containerization and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes
• CI/CD tooling: GitHub Actions, CircleCI, ArgoCD or similar
• Infrastructure-as-code: Terraform, Pulumi or equivalent
• Observability practices: logs, metrics, traces, SLOs and incident response
• Security fundamentals: authentication/authorization, secrets management, threat modeling, secure coding
• Familiarity with Python is a strong plus

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process based on experience level and market benchmarks for senior DevOps engineers in Berlin.
