Senior Photonik-Charakterisierungsingenieur (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential photonics organization seeking a Senior Photonics Characterization Engineer in Stuttgart. In this role, you will:

• Perform high-speed characterization measurements in the GHz range on thin-film lithium niobate photonic integrated circuits and photodiodes
• Conduct experimental verifications and statistical analyses to determine performance parameters
• Develop, build, and optimize optical and RF test setups including probe station configuration and calibration
• Create Python, LabVIEW, and MATLAB tools for measurement automation, data acquisition, and analysis
• Contribute to hybrid photodiode-PIC integration from design coordination through validation and packaging
• Provide feedback from measurement results to design, manufacturing, and technology roadmap planning
• Plan and prioritize characterization campaigns
• Coordinate with external suppliers, service providers, and research partners
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians in testing, data collection, and analysis
• Ensure laboratory safety and maintain documentation of methods, code, and results

What We're Looking For

• Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or related field
• Minimum five years of relevant experience in industry or research, with at least one year in high-speed photonic testing in the GHz range
• Knowledge of lithium niobate on insulator device physics and applications in high-speed modulation, detection, and RF signal integrity
• Hands-on experience with thin-film lithium niobate, photodiode characterization, and hybrid photonic-electronic integration
• Proficiency with vector network analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, optical spectrum analyzers, RF probes, and tunable lasers
• Knowledge of calibration procedures for optical and RF systems
• Strong Python skills; LabVIEW and MATLAB knowledge is advantageous
• Experience with photonic integrated circuit testing, probe station measurements, optical alignment, and optoelectronic commissioning
• Excellent English skills required; German language skills are beneficial
