About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential robotics client in München who is seeking a Senior Payload Integration Engineer for unmanned ground vehicle platforms. In this senior individual contributor role, you will own the complete electrical, electronic, and mechanical integration of mission payloads across autonomous vehicle platforms. Your work will enable scalable, reusable payload interfaces that adapt to evolving mission requirements without platform redesigns.

You will drive integration architecture end to end—from interface definition through commissioning—working at the intersection of vehicle hardware, autonomy software, mechanical engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own electrical, electronic, and mechanical integration architecture for payloads across UGV platforms, ensuring scalable and reusable interfaces rather than one-off solutions
  • Design, specify, and validate payload interfaces including power supply, signal routing, communication protocols, connectors, mounting concepts, cooling, grounding, shielding, and serviceability
  • Integrate payloads into vehicle power, network, compute, and control architectures: schematics, harnessing, connectors, fusing, diagnostics, and interface documentation
  • Work with vehicle communication buses (CAN, automotive Ethernet) to integrate payload data and control interfaces into the vehicle architecture
  • Own the health of the complete E/E system through systematic cross-domain troubleshooting across payload, harness, power, compute, and software layers
  • Drive payload mounting solutions with internal teams and external suppliers, addressing brackets, packaging, accessibility, vibration robustness, environmental protection, and manufacturability
  • Plan and execute payload bring-up and commissioning on vehicle prototypes: mechanical fitment, electrical integration, software provisioning, troubleshooting, and full system validation
  • Define acceptance criteria, build system-level test setups, automate integration and regression tests, and support field testing activities
  • Translate integration findings into design improvements and feed validated workflows into CI and test infrastructure
  • Work directly with payload suppliers to clarify requirements, review documentation, align specifications, and drive issue resolution
  • Create interface control documents, integration guides, test reports, and reusable standards for future payload integrations
  • Support build-ups, rework, payload installation, and vehicle-level commissioning in the workshop during prototype and customer-specific integration phases

What We're Looking For

  • Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, vehicle systems, or comparable technical field
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in field robotics, vehicle, or mechatronic system integration; proven track record bringing complex E/E systems to life on real vehicles or machines
  • Strong E/E integration expertise: power distribution, signal interfaces, connectors, wiring harnesses, grounding, shielding, diagnostics, and vehicle-level troubleshooting
  • Hands-on experience with vehicle communication buses (CAN, ideally CAN-FD or automotive Ethernet), including reading and debugging bus traffic during integration
  • Solid mechanical integration understanding: mounting concepts, packaging, tolerances, vibration, environmental robustness, accessibility, and serviceability
  • Practical software skills for integration work: Linux, scripting (Python or Bash), software provisioning and configuration of embedded devices, and issue tracking tools
  • Comfortable automating recurring integration tests and building reliable test infrastructure
  • Experience defining and running validation setups from bench and rig level up to vehicle-level testing, with quality-first mindset and discipline
  • Systematic debugging approach, structured documentation skills, and ability to turn unclear payload requirements into practical engineering solutions
  • Hands-on mentality: comfortable working directly on vehicles, prototypes, harnesses, brackets, and payload installations in the workshop
  • Strong communication skills across engineering teams, suppliers, procurement, and program stakeholders
  • Fluent in German and English
  • High ownership, pragmatic problem-solving approach, and ability to thrive in fast-paced environments
