(Senior) Marketing Controller (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential e-commerce organization based in Hamburg that is experiencing rapid international growth. They are expanding their finance and controlling function and need a Marketing Controller to drive data-informed decision-making across their marketing operations.

In this role, you will:

• Analyze and develop marketing KPIs to create a foundation for data-driven decisions, identifying deviations early and deriving concrete action recommendations
• Evaluate performance of marketing channels and campaigns at the audience, product, and market level to identify optimization opportunities
• Analyze conversion rates, customer acquisition costs, return on ad spend, and customer lifetime value, making relationships between metrics transparent
• Develop meaningful reports, dashboards, and early warning systems in collaboration with marketing, finance, and data teams
• Connect marketing metrics with business outcomes, demonstrating which measures contribute to customer acquisition, retention, and profitability
• Create performance forecasts and scenario analyses to evaluate the potential impact of different marketing initiatives
• Define clear target values, benchmarks, and performance KPIs with stakeholders, making goal achievement measurable
• Analyze the customer journey and conversion funnel to identify opportunities for improving conversion rates, repeat purchase rates, and customer value
• Evaluate A/B tests and campaign experiments, deriving well-founded recommendations for evolving marketing activities
• Ensure quality, consistency, and traceability of marketing data while developing KPI definitions and measurement methods
• Drive automation and standardization of marketing reporting processes
• Work closely with marketing, management, finance, data, and sales teams, presenting insights in an understandable and decision-oriented manner

What We're Looking For

Our client seeks a Marketing Controller with:

• Completed degree in business administration, finance, controlling, economics, or comparable qualification
• Experience from e-commerce, direct-to-consumer, retail, fashion, consumer goods, or a fast-growing company environment (particularly valuable)
• Understanding of marketing beyond the technical level—able to explain what operational decision drives a change in metrics
• Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets with ability to analyze large data sets in a structured manner
• Experience with BI tools, ERP systems, and automated reporting (significant plus)
• Analytical and precise working style that leads quickly to clear recommendations rather than getting lost in analysis
• Drive to challenge numbers rather than simply accepting them
• Ability to explain complex issues clearly to non-marketing stakeholders
• Independent working style with strong ownership mentality, comfortable in an environment where decisions are made quickly and results are measured clearly
• Very good German and good English language skills
