(Senior) Controller / Finance Business Partner (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a rapidly scaling e-commerce organization in Hamburg that needs senior-level finance professionals to drive profitable growth across multiple business units.

In this role, you will serve as a strategic Finance Business Partner responsible for the financial stewardship of one or more critical business areas including marketing and e-commerce, product and sourcing, operations and logistics, or corporate finance functions.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Owning financial performance for your assigned business units, working directly with functional leadership to translate numbers into actionable strategy
• Managing key performance indicators, budgets, and P&L components while proactively addressing variances before they impact results
• Analyzing contribution margins and profitability at granular levels—by product, channel, market, and cost center—to identify the highest-impact levers
• Building forecasts, scenario analyses, and business cases that clearly demonstrate the financial implications of different strategic choices
• Transforming annual budgeting and planning processes into dynamic steering tools that support real-time decision-making
• Challenging cost structures and operational models for efficiency, scalability, and profitability
• Developing management reporting, dashboards, and early warning systems in collaboration with finance and data teams
• Connecting operational KPIs to financial outcomes so leadership understands exactly where value is created, lost, or should be invested
• Supporting liquidity planning, cashflow management, and working capital optimization
• Analyzing inventory, procurement, payment terms, and capital deployment to improve cash conversion cycles
• Advancing controlling processes through automation, standardization, and digitalization
• Collaborating closely with executive leadership, finance, accounting, data analytics, and operational teams

What We're Looking For

Our talent team is seeking candidates with the following qualifications:

• Completed degree in business administration, finance, controlling, economics, or equivalent qualification
• Several years of professional experience in controlling, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), or finance business partnering roles
• Background in e-commerce, direct-to-consumer, retail, fashion, consumer goods, or high-growth environments is particularly valuable
• Deep understanding of P&L statements—not just technically, but with the ability to connect financial changes to underlying operational decisions
• Mastery of concepts including contribution margin analysis, cashflow modeling, working capital management, forecasting, and business case development
• Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets with the ability to analyze large, complex datasets efficiently
• Experience with business intelligence tools, ERP systems, and automated reporting platforms is a strong advantage
• Analytical and precise work style combined with the ability to move quickly from analysis to clear recommendations
• Willingness to challenge assumptions and data rather than simply accepting figures at face value
• Ability to communicate complex financial concepts in ways that non-finance stakeholders immediately understand and can act upon
• Self-directed work approach with comfort in fast-paced environments where decisions happen quickly and results are measured clearly
• Very good German language skills and good English proficiency
