Senior Backend Engineer - Activation and Revenue at SumUp in Berlin, Germany (Full Time, No Remote)
The Opportunity
In the Global Bank tribe, you'll be instrumental in building the infrastructure for a digital business account that empowers merchants to manage their banking needs. Our mission is to become the leading banking partner for small merchants globally with an effortless and affordable experience. As part of the Bank Activation and Revenue team, your work will directly impact the conversion rate from SumUp's ecosystem users into active bank users. You'll own the critical journey from account opening until merchants fully integrate their business accounts into daily operations.
What You'll Do
- Build Greenfield Services: Design and implement Banners, Rewards, and Feature Toggles to power global product experimentation.
- Drive Activation: Create the technical logic that tracks and incentivizes users through their first five meaningful transactions, ensuring a smooth path to becoming a long-term banking partner.
- Owning the Stack E2E: Follow our "build it, run it, own it" model. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of your features, from architectural design to production monitoring.
- Participate in a culture of high-velocity engineering with daily deliveries.
Who We're Looking For
- Strong experience as a backend engineer, preferably in the financial or SaaS industry.
- Proficiency in building scalable and efficient services using modern technologies like Python, Go, or Java.
- Experience with microservices architecture and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
- Adept at designing and implementing complex systems that require high availability and performance.
- Passionate about solving challenging problems and delivering value to users through technical innovation.
