The Opportunity

Join LaunchDarkly as a Backend Software Engineer on our Flag Delivery team. Our mission is to serve data efficiently and reliably to our customers. As we expand the team for bandwidth and energy, this role offers an exciting opportunity for growth in a senior-led environment. You will contribute to backend services that are critical to our product's delivery path, work closely with various teams including SDK, Platform, SRE, Security, and Enterprise, and tackle real-time production systems at scale.

• Build and improve backend services that power LaunchDarkly’s Flag Delivery systems
• Contribute to streaming and polling delivery models for LaunchDarkly SDKs
• Debug production issues, enhance service reliability, and maintain high standards around latency, availability, observability, and operability
• Work with modern distributed backend technologies such as caching layers, network services, concurrency, failure handling, and cloud infrastructure
• Collaborate closely with partner teams to deliver improvements across the broader platform
• Participate in on-call rotations and take ownership of systems you help build

Your Responsibilities

You will be responsible for building, improving, and operating backend services that power LaunchDarkly’s Flag Delivery systems. You will contribute to the support of streaming and polling delivery models for LaunchDarkly SDKs. Your role involves debugging production issues, enhancing service reliability, and maintaining high standards around latency, availability, observability, and operability. You should be comfortable working with modern distributed backend technologies including caching layers, network services, concurrency, failure handling, and cloud infrastructure.

Qualifications

We are looking for an engineer who is excited by distributed systems, weird production behavior, and learning quickly on a senior team. You already bring real production instincts, strong debugging judgment, and clear AI fluency in your engineering work. Experience with distributed systems, caching layers, network services, concurrency, failure handling, and cloud infrastructure is essential.
