Principal Clinical Data Engineer – based in South Africa

Parexel is hiring a Principal Clinical Data Engineer for a full-time position based in South Africa (2 Locations). In this leadership role, you will drive the design, development, and oversight of clinical data systems that power pharmaceutical development and support our operations globally.

The Opportunity

As a Principal Clinical Data Engineer, you will lead the strategic direction of our clinical data infrastructure, ensuring systems are scalable, secure, and compliant with industry standards. This role offers the chance to shape how clinical data flows through Parexel, mentor engineering teams, and influence the technical decisions that impact pharmaceutical development. You'll work across clinical operations, IT, and business functions to deliver robust, forward-thinking data solutions.

Core Duties

• Design and oversee the architecture of clinical data systems, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
• Lead the development and implementation of data engineering solutions that support clinical trial operations and data management
• Establish and enforce data quality standards, governance frameworks, and compliance protocols across clinical systems
• Mentor and guide engineering team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement
• Collaborate with clinical operations, informatics, and IT stakeholders to identify requirements and deliver integrated solutions
• Evaluate and implement emerging technologies that enhance clinical data capabilities and operational efficiency

Who We're Looking For

• Extensive experience in clinical data engineering or data systems development, ideally within pharmaceutical or healthcare sectors
• Strong background in database design, data architecture, and systems integration
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities at a senior technical level
• Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks relevant to clinical data, including FDA, GCP, and related standards
• Proficiency in modern data technologies and programming languages
• Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
