About the Role
As a Paraeducator in Special Education, you'll work alongside special education teachers and school staff to provide direct support to students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and other learning differences. This full-time position at Harford Academy focuses on helping students succeed academically, socially, and behaviorally throughout the school day.
What You'll Do
- Provide one-on-one and small-group instructional support to students with special education needs
- Assist with classroom management and create a positive, inclusive learning environment
- Help implement behavior intervention strategies and support social-emotional development
- Work with special education staff to monitor student progress and communicate with families
- Support students in academic tasks, transitions, and daily school routines
- Maintain accurate records and documentation as required
- Adapt materials and activities to meet individual student needs under teacher direction
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED required
- Genuine passion for supporting students with special needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain patient, organized, and flexible in a fast-paced school setting
- Willingness to follow teacher direction and collaborate with school teams
- Physical ability to assist students as needed
- Prior experience with special education is a plus but not required
