Onboard Software Engineer – Hyperdrive

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential aerospace client seeking an experienced Onboard Software Engineer to join their team in Toulouse, France. This is a permanent, full-time position working on critical satellite software infrastructure.

Our client operates a growing constellation of spacecraft and is building the next generation of onboard platform software. You'll be working on core capabilities that power mission-critical services in orbit—from fault detection and recovery to lifecycle management and inter-service communication. This role offers direct involvement in operating live satellites and shaping software that flies in space.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and refine onboard software with high ownership, driving features from concept through delivery in orbit
• Review code, provide feedback, and enforce development processes and design standards across the team
• Design and implement unit tests for both your own code and peer contributions
• Utilize version control to manage feature branches, code reviews, and production releases
• Contribute to software architecture through design proposals and collaborative review sessions
• Participate in continuous improvement of development processes and engineering standards
• Coordinate with downstream teams on release distribution and adoption of new software versions
• Support operations of the on-orbit satellite fleet

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience using C/C++ (C++11 or newer) and Python
• Hands-on experience with version control systems such as Git
• Experience with continuous integration tools (GitLab-CI, Jenkins, or similar)
• Proficiency with build systems like Make or CMake
• Experience with library management and ABI/API version control
• Understanding of distributed system architecture
• Familiarity with networking protocols (UDP, TCP, IP) and POSIX standards
• Experience developing multi-threaded applications
• English language proficiency for international collaboration

Preferred:

• Familiarity with Go or Rust
• Experience with embedded Linux operation, including Yocto, device trees, systemd, and ARM platforms
• Proficiency with unit test frameworks (pytest, Googletest, Unity)
• Experience with middleware frameworks (gRPC, ZMQ, NATS)
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, K3S, systemd-nspawn)
