Dutch (dutch.com) is hiring a General Manager, Insurance. Public listing data here is limited to the employer domain and role title; treat company culture, products, and scale as items to verify on the career site and during interviews.

Dutch is hiring a remote GM, Insurance to found, launch, and grow a brand-new pet insurance vertical from the ground up — a CEO-style mandate inside a fast-scaling pet telemedicine company. This full-time role is open to candidates based in Canada or in select U.S. states.

About the Role

As GM, Insurance at Dutch, you'll operate as the entrepreneurial owner of an entire business line, carrying it from a blank page to nationwide scale. You'll architect the operating model, shape go-to-market strategy, steer partner relationships, and hold full accountability for the vertical's profit and loss. The role suits a builder who pairs sharp strategic thinking with hands-on execution and thrives inside regulated, fast-moving markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Dutch's pet insurance vertical end to end — strategy, launch, growth, operations, and financial results.
  • Craft the business plan, covering revenue model, margin structure, acquisition, retention, and a long-term roadmap.
  • Drive nationwide availability, including the path to operating across all 50 states.
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, carriers, brokers, and TPAs to keep the offering compliant and scalable.
  • Assess and oversee partnership structures spanning carriers, agency models, underwriting, claims, and MGA-style opportunities.
  • Design the member journey across quoting, purchase, onboarding, claims education, and renewals.
  • Partner across product, engineering, marketing, lifecycle, CX, clinical, legal, and finance to embed insurance into the Dutch experience.
  • Build and refine the funnel — pricing presentation, plan positioning, conversion, attach rate, and cross-sell.
  • Own the P&L, reporting cadences, and dashboards that track business health, while building the team and vendor infrastructure to scale.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years across insurance, consumer fintech, healthcare, pet care, marketplace, subscription, or other regulated consumer businesses.
  • Track record owning a business line, product line, or P&L with real revenue and margin accountability.
  • Solid grasp of insurance models — carrier partnerships, distribution, brokerage, claims operations, and state-by-state regulation.
  • Demonstrated ability to launch and scale something new from early stage to meaningful revenue.
  • Highly analytical, cross-functional leadership with strong judgment in ambiguous, regulated settings.
  • Sharp commercial instincts around pricing, packaging, retention, and unit economics, plus an entrepreneurial, playbook-building mindset.
  • Nice to have: experience in pet, health, P&C, or embedded insurance; multi-state launches; work with carriers, MGAs, or TPAs; and high-growth startup or telehealth backgrounds.

Build the skills for this role

Prioritize insurance product and regulatory fluency, P&L literacy, distribution partner management, and clear people leadership. No certification list or costs were provided for this role family; if Dutch names preferred licenses or credentials, confirm those directly with hiring.

    • Be ready to walk through how you ran an insurance P&L or portfolio and what moved loss ratio, retention, or growth.
    • Prepare examples of aligning underwriting, ops, and go-to-market under constraint.
    • Ask how Dutch defines the insurance book, success metrics for this GM seat, and decision rights vs. partners or carriers.

Strong fit if you have led insurance operations or product at scale and can own outcomes without a fully remote setup across Canada/U.S. markets. Data is thin on Dutch’s insurance model—use screening to match your domain (e.g., pet, specialty, embedded) to theirs.
