About the Role

As a Laboratory Scientist/MLS/CLS/MT at Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, VA, you will serve on nights as a core member of the Vcuhealth laboratory team. The full-time role involves processing and analyzing patient specimens to generate reliable data for clinical decisions during overnight hours. You will apply standardized methods across routine and specialized testing while upholding quality, safety, and documentation standards expected of an MLS, CLS, or MT professional. This position demands focus, independent judgment, and readiness to support continuous hospital laboratory operations in South Hill, VA.

Responsibilities

• Execute clinical laboratory analyses on blood, body fluids, and other specimens following validated protocols
• Evaluate and verify test results for accuracy before release, flagging and escalating critically abnormal findings
• Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on analyzers and related laboratory instrumentation
• Complete daily quality-control checks, participate in proficiency testing, and document corrective actions
• Maintain precise records of testing, quality metrics, and instrument performance in the laboratory information system
• Prepare reagents, monitor inventory levels, and ensure available supplies for uninterrupted night-shift workflow
• Collaborate with nursing and medical staff to provide timely laboratory insights during overnight hours
• Adhere to biosafety, infection-control, and regulatory requirements throughout all testing activities

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or a closely related scientific field
• Current certification as an MLS (ASCP), CLS, MT, or equivalent national credential, or eligibility for such certification
• Demonstrated ability to perform complex laboratory procedures accurately under minimal supervision
• Working knowledge of quality-control practices, method validation principles, and laboratory regulatory standards
• Proficiency with automated analyzers, microscopes, and basic laboratory information systems
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and clear written and verbal communication skills
• Capacity to work independently and manage priorities effectively during discrete night shifts
• Willingness to maintain continuing education required for ongoing certification and practice excellence
