About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential e-commerce technology organization seeking an IT Automation Engineer to join their Business Technology team. This is a remote position based in the United States, requiring working hours aligned to Central or Mountain time zones.

In this role, you will design, build, and maintain the automation scripts, workflows, and tools that allow the IT team to focus on strategic work rather than repetitive manual tasks. You will also administer and support enterprise end-user, identity, and collaboration platforms, ensuring your automation work is grounded in hands-on ownership of those systems. This position requires close partnership with Service Desk, Infrastructure Engineering, and Information Security teams to identify where automation can reduce risk and free up capacity.

Responsibilities

Automation Development & Engineering

  • Design, build, and maintain automation scripts and workflows using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar languages to streamline IT service delivery, endpoint provisioning, and systems administration
  • Create automated workflows across user lifecycle, device provisioning, and identity lifecycle using platforms such as Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, and Jamf through API and webhook integrations
  • Implement logging and alerting in automations to ensure all actions are auditable and measurable
  • Transform manual, repetitive IT operations processes into reliable, documented automated solutions
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate script development, troubleshoot automation failures, and draft technical documentation

Enterprise Systems Administration & Support

  • Administer, configure, and monitor end-user and identity platforms including Active Directory, Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Jamf, and Tanium
  • Provide administration and support for collaboration and productivity platforms such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams
  • Resolve end-user computing issues across Windows and macOS environments through ticketing queue, direct messaging, and voice/video sessions
  • Document technical solutions aligned with corporate IT and Information Security standards
  • Collaborate with partner teams to identify recurring manual tasks suitable for automation
  • Test, deploy, and monitor automation workflows across technical and non-technical audiences

Process Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Document automation workflows, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides to ensure solutions remain supportable across the IT organization
  • Maintain the automation knowledge base, keeping runbooks and integration notes current
  • Apply lessons learned from prior automation efforts to improve reliability and reduce inefficiencies
  • Monitor performance and reliability of deployed automations, resolving issues within your area of ownership

AI-Enabled Productivity & Innovation

  • Use AI tools for configuration research, scripting, troubleshooting, documentation, and solution design
  • Validate AI-generated scripts, configurations, and recommendations in non-production environments before production deployment
  • Share effective AI-assisted approaches with teammates to improve automation quality and speed
  • Identify opportunities where automation and AI can be applied to Business Technology workflows

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in IT systems administration, service desk operations, or related technical role with hands-on experience writing and maintaining automation scripts (PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar)
  • Hands-on experience administering or supporting enterprise identity, collaboration, and productivity platforms such as Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Microsoft 365, Slack, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams
  • Demonstrated experience adapting or troubleshooting existing automation, scripts, or workflows to resolve moderately complex technical issues
  • Experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, or similar) to improve productivity through research, documentation, and automation
  • Demonstrated hands-on use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to build, ship, or automate working solutions, with portfolio or project examples
  • Located in the United States Central or Mountain time zone with working hours aligned accordingly
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Successful professional experience working in a remote environment
  • Ability to handle escalations requiring cross-team coordination and participate in on-call rotation for urgent issues outside business hours

  • Experience with workflow orchestration or automation platforms (Zapier, Make, n8n, Workato)
  • Familiarity with REST API integration patterns and event-driven concepts including webhooks, triggers, and conditional logic
