About the Role

The Installation Assistant - LPA Shelby Cullom Davis Museum (P/T) at Nypl integrates into the Design Interpretation efforts that shape gallery presentations across research locations. Based at the Library for the Performing Arts, this position centers on supporting the full cycle of exhibition delivery so that objects appear cohesive, lighting safeguards materials, and spaces welcome visitors who pursue lifelong learning. Day-to-day activity blends technical preparation with collaborative production to uphold visual standards for both ongoing galleries and temporary freestanding displays.

Key Responsibilities

• Place and later remove collection objects that appear in exhibitions or special features
• Ready gallery rooms through relocating cases, thorough cleaning, surface painting, wall patching, and fabric-lining of interiors or panels
• Carry out matting, framing, basic mount construction, and preliminary object care for artworks, prints, photographs, documents, and ephemera while following conservation protocols
• Shift every required item such as tools, hardware, supplies, hydraulic lifts, tables, blankets, case handlers, ladders, carts, tool kits, bins, lighting units and canisters, audiovisual gear, barriers, pedestals, cases, covers, brochure racks, acrylic stands, mounts, textiles, and columns needed for setup or removal
• Run workshop equipment including manual implements, powered tools, and work carts when called for
• Complete carpentry within exhibition zones covering demolition, wall fixes, painting, and fabric application
• Build exhibition fixtures such as pedestals, platforms, bases, and vitrines whenever projects demand them
• Prepare, dry-affix, and position graphic components with exact placement, then configure and calibrate illumination levels to meet conservation standards
• Uphold a tidy, orderly workspace throughout each phase
• Coordinate with the Supervising Maintainer on measurements, material choices, construction techniques, and lighting arrangements
• Address additional related duties when assigned
