About the Role

As an Inspector - Mechanical - Plumbing I/II/III with the City of Abilene, you'll work under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Planning and Development Services to conduct thorough field inspections and perform related office duties. Your work balances time in the field conducting site visits with office responsibilities, ensuring that every mechanical system, plumbing installation, and fuel gas line meets municipal codes and safety standards.

What You'll Do

• Perform comprehensive inspections of new construction projects, renovation work, and repair activities to verify compliance with mechanical, plumbing, and fuel gas codes
• Conduct pre-construction meetings and final inspections to ensure systems are installed correctly and safely
• Document inspection findings, take measurements, and photograph conditions to maintain accurate records
• Issue inspection reports, citations, and correction notices when code violations are identified
• Communicate directly with contractors, property owners, and engineering consultants regarding compliance issues and required remediation
• Maintain detailed inspection logs and case files for future reference and permit tracking
• Stay current with City mechanical, plumbing, and fuel gas code updates and amendments

What We're Looking For

• Active professional license or certification as required by the State of Texas for mechanical and plumbing inspection
