Health and Physical Education Teacher

Perth Amboy Public Schools is hiring a Health and Physical Education Teacher for William C. McGinnis School in Perth Amboy. This full-time position invites you to inspire middle school students to develop lifelong habits around fitness, wellness, and healthy living.

About the Role

You'll design and deliver engaging instruction that builds students' physical competence, confidence, and understanding of personal and community health. Your classroom will be a space where every student—athlete or not—experiences success, discovers joy in movement, and learns evidence-based health practices that serve them well beyond middle school.

What You'll Do

• Develop and teach health and physical education lessons aligned with state standards and district initiatives
• Lead diverse fitness, sports, and wellness activities that meet students at different ability levels and learning preferences
• Establish a safe, respectful gymnasium and classroom environment where all students feel encouraged to participate and take appropriate risks
• Use varied assessment approaches to track student progress in physical skills, fitness, and health knowledge
• Work collaboratively with staff to support student achievement across academic, social, and developmental domains
• Manage facilities, equipment, and instructional materials responsibly

What We're Looking For

• Health and Physical Education Certification (required)
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Experience or demonstrated ability to teach middle-grade students effectively
• Deep commitment to inclusive practice and differentiated instruction
• Strong command of health topics—nutrition, mental wellbeing, disease prevention, and injury safety
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills
