Senior Staff Accountant

The Opportunity

This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Controller within our Accounting department. As Senior Staff Accountant at United Petroleum Transports, you'll ensure our financial operations run smoothly while delivering accurate, compliant reporting that drives business decisions. You'll play a central role in our month-end and year-end close cycles, financial statement preparation, and the controls that keep our books audit-ready. This role offers the chance to grow your technical accounting expertise while making a direct impact on company performance.

Your Responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger accuracy through timely reconciliations, journal entries, and account analysis
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures
• Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules for accuracy and compliance
• Coordinate with external auditors and manage audit-related documentation
• Analyze variances and investigate account discrepancies
• Ensure adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and internal policies
• Collaborate with operations and finance teams to resolve accounting issues
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls

Who We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 3+ years of accounting experience, including general ledger or financial reporting
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of GAAP
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
• Professional communication skills and a collaborative approach
• CPA designation or willingness to pursue professional certification is a plus
