Data Engineer – Generative AI & Vector Systems

Role Overview

This is a full-time position for a Data Engineer focused on developing and maintaining data systems that support generative AI and vector-based machine learning workloads. You'll work with cutting-edge vector databases, large language models, and modern data pipeline technologies to enable our AI initiatives. Based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, you'll contribute to designing scalable, reliable data architectures that underpin our AI engineering efforts.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement data pipelines for generative AI applications, including embedding generation and vector storage workflows
• Develop and maintain vector database schemas and optimisation strategies
• Build ETL processes to ingest, transform, and prepare data for large language models and AI systems
• Collaborate with machine learning and AI teams to ensure data quality and availability for model training and inference
• Monitor data systems performance, implement monitoring and alerting, and troubleshoot production issues
• Establish data governance practices and maintain data lineage for AI workloads
• Optimise query performance and storage efficiency for vector-based retrieval systems

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar data-focused role
• Strong proficiency in Python or a similar programming language
• Hands-on experience with relational and NoSQL databases
• Familiarity with vector databases and similarity search technologies
• Understanding of machine learning concepts and data preprocessing techniques
• Experience building data pipelines using tools such as Apache Spark, Airflow, or equivalent frameworks
• Solid grasp of SQL and query optimisation
• Problem-solving mindset and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
