Group Manager, Software Engineering

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential technology services organization in their search for a Group Manager, Software Engineering to lead engineering teams focused on their Generative AI product portfolio. This role offers the opportunity to drive technical excellence while mentoring cross-functional teams of backend, frontend, and QA engineers in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

This is a remote position based in the United States (Georgia work-at-home arrangement).

Responsibilities

• Lead technical excellence across the full development stack, ensuring architectural integrity and platform innovation
• Mentor and inspire high-performing engineering teams, cultivating a culture of ownership, agility, and continuous improvement
• Establish clear goals and growth pathways while promoting accountability and innovation
• Oversee the complete development lifecycle from ideation to deployment, ensuring timely, quality delivery of key features and enhancements
• Optimize resource allocation and align priorities across teams to consistently meet project milestones
• Proactively monitor project execution, identify risks and bottlenecks early, and implement strategic solutions
• Champion the adoption of emerging AI tools to enhance productivity in development and QA processes
• Drive cross-functional collaboration among engineers, DevOps, and stakeholders for seamless integration and rapid delivery
• Translate technical complexities into actionable business insights for diverse audiences
• Foster transparency, knowledge sharing, and shared accountability across all teams

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 10+ years of experience as a senior engineering manager leading frontend, backend, and QA teams
• Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript
• Expertise in web technologies: React, Next.js, Node.js, and NestJS
• Experience with both RDBMS and NoSQL databases (Postgres, MongoDB, DynamoDB)
• Strong foundation in design principles including OOP and functional programming
• Understanding of data-centric approaches to software engineering and well-architected data ecosystems
• Solid knowledge of AWS and Azure services and infrastructure for web applications
• Experience with performance optimization, security best practices, and RESTful API design
• Proficiency in Agile methodologies and project management tools like Jira
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions
• Proven leadership and people management skills with a track record of building high-performing teams
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities focused on delivering exceptional user experiences
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across all organizational levels
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT) for code generation and documentation
• Experience with AI-powered debugging and testing tools
• Comfortable with prompt engineering practices to enhance team efficiency
• Startup experience is a plus
• E-commerce or retail background is highly beneficial
