Join Rochester School Department as a Grade Kindergarten Teacher and inspire young learners at a pivotal stage of their educational journey. This full-time teaching position is based at Chamberlain Street School and offers the opportunity to shape foundational skills, curiosity, and confidence in students ages 5–6.
About the Role
As a Kindergarten Teacher, you'll create an engaging, developmentally appropriate learning environment where students begin their formal education. You'll blend play-based instruction with structured academic introduction, helping children build social-emotional, literacy, and numeracy foundations while fostering a lifelong love of learning.
What You'll Do
- Design and deliver daily lessons aligned to state standards in literacy, mathematics, science, and social-emotional learning
- Implement classroom management strategies that support a positive, inclusive community where all students feel safe and valued
- Observe and assess student progress through formative and summative assessments, using data to guide instruction
- Facilitate hands-on activities, small-group instruction, and cooperative learning that accommodate diverse learning styles
- Communicate regularly with families through progress reports, conferences, and updates on their child's development
- Collaborate with special educators, support staff, and colleagues to ensure all students receive appropriate support
- Maintain accurate records and participate in professional development to strengthen teaching practice
What We're Looking For
- Valid state teaching certification or licensure in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education
- Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for young learners
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to manage a dynamic classroom
- Patience, creativity, and genuine enthusiasm for working with kindergarten-age children
- Experience differentiating instruction to meet varied student needs
- Commitment to building partnerships with families and supporting whole-child development
