Senior Lead Cloud Engineer

Lumen is hiring a full-time Senior Lead Cloud Engineer to join its infrastructure team based in Augusta, Kennebec County — an opportunity to shape the cloud backbone powering enterprise, government, and community connectivity across the United States.

About the Role

As a Senior Lead Cloud Engineer at Lumen, you'll sit at the intersection of cloud architecture, AI-ready infrastructure, and high-performance fiber networking. This is a senior individual-contributor and technical leadership position for someone who doesn't just keep systems running — they drive what gets built next. You'll contribute to a connected ecosystem trusted to carry some of the most demanding workloads in cloud, edge computing, and AI.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and evolve cloud infrastructure solutions that meet the performance and security demands of enterprise and government customers
• Provide technical leadership across cloud engineering efforts, setting standards and guiding peers on best practices
• Architect and manage multi-cloud or hybrid environments spanning AWS, Azure, and GCP alongside Lumen's proprietary fiber and edge network
• Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code frameworks using tools such as Terraform or Ansible
• Drive CI/CD pipeline improvements and container orchestration strategies using Kubernetes and related technologies
• Collaborate cross-functionally with network, security, and product teams to deliver integrated, end-to-end cloud solutions
• Identify and resolve infrastructure bottlenecks, reducing latency and improving reliability at scale
• Mentor engineers and contribute to the technical direction of cloud initiatives

What We're Looking For

• Significant hands-on experience in cloud engineering, with a track record in senior or lead-level roles
• Deep expertise across one or more major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid cloud architectures
• Strong command of infrastructure-as-code tools, container technologies, and modern DevOps practices
• Solid understanding of network fundamentals — routing, SD-WAN, or fiber connectivity experience is a plus given Lumen's core infrastructure
• Experience supporting high-availability systems for enterprise or government clients
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and align engineering teams around a shared architectural vision
• Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex cloud concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
