Full-Time Fractional Controller for Construction Industry Clients

Vessel Advisors is seeking a Full-Time Fractional Controller for Construction Industry Clients to join their team in Jere Baxter, Davidson County.

About the Role

This position provides financial leadership and controller services to multiple construction‑focused clients on a fractional basis. You will oversee accounting operations, ensure accurate reporting, and support strategic decision‑making for each client engagement while working full‑time for Vessel Advisors.

What You'll Do

• Manage month‑end close, general ledger maintenance, and financial statement preparation for construction industry clients
• Supervise accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and cash management processes
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and industry‑specific reporting requirements
• Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures tailored to construction projects
• Prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses; advise clients on financial performance and cost‑control opportunities
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, and banking partners as needed
• Provide ad‑hoc financial analysis and support for special projects or acquisitions
• Mentor and guide junior accounting staff across client accounts

What We're Looking For

• CPA certification or equivalent accounting credential preferred
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the construction or real‑estate sector
• Strong expertise in construction accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage‑of‑completion methods
• Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Sage, Vista, Procore, QuickBooks Enterprise) and advanced Excel skills
• Excellent communication skills; ability to translate financial data into actionable insights for non‑financial stakeholders
• Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, and capable of managing multiple client priorities simultaneously
• Eligibility to work in the United States; candidates residing in CA, NY, IL, NJ, WA, OR, MA, CT, MN, or CO cannot be considered at this time
