Engineering Manager

About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing European fintech organization in their search for an Engineering Manager to join their Berlin team. Our client is building a comprehensive B2B financial platform that serves hundreds of thousands of businesses across Europe, and they need a technical leader who can balance product thinking with engineering excellence.

This is a hybrid role based in Berlin, working with cross-functional teams to deliver features that drive real business impact. You'll lead 5-10 engineers across backend, frontend, mobile, and QA disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a cross-functional engineering team of 5-10 people across multiple disciplines
• Partner closely with Product and Design to deliver features that create measurable business value
• Balance feature delivery with technical debt and system scalability
• Make technical decisions through explicit trade-offs and communicate the reasoning clearly
• Own hiring, promotions, and career development for your team members
• Run meaningful 1:1s and create growth plans for engineers at all levels
• Drive predictable delivery by communicating priorities, risks, and constraints proactively
• Challenge problem framing with product partners to ensure teams solve the right problems
• Connect engineering work to business outcomes like retention, conversion, and revenue
• Improve team productivity through better tooling, processes, and removing bottlenecks

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of software development experience building data-intensive production systems
• Proven track record leading cross-functional engineering teams
• Deep technical knowledge with hands-on experience in at least one general-purpose language and platform (C#/.NET, Java/JVM, JavaScript/Node, or Go)
• Strong understanding of distributed architectures, databases, messaging systems, and queueing systems
• Experience working in product-led organizations, ideally with international scope
• Business acumen to connect engineering decisions to revenue, retention, and customer trust
• Comfort with product metrics including DAU/MAU, retention rates, and conversion funnels
• Exceptional communication skills in English across technical and non-technical audiences
• Builder's mentality with genuine care about shipping great products and developing great teams
• Experience with modern tech stacks involving React, mobile development (Swift/Kotlin), and cloud infrastructure (Kubernetes)
