Position Summary
As an Employment Counsellor with JVS Toronto, you will guide job seekers from diverse backgrounds through their career journey, providing personalized support on job search strategies, skill development, and professional growth. Working 35 hours per week at our Yonge & Sheppard office, you'll make a direct impact helping clients navigate the Toronto employment market. The position offers a salary of $56,366–$57,495 annually, commensurate with experience, with a start date of as soon as possible.
Core Duties
- Conduct intake meetings and develop tailored employment plans with clients
- Deliver one-on-one career guidance and labour market insights
- Teach effective job search methods, including networking strategies and online platforms
- Review and advise on résumés, cover letters, and job applications
- Provide interview coaching and mock interview preparation
- Connect clients with training, education programs, and local resources
- Track client progress and document employment outcomes
- Partner with employers and community organizations to expand job opportunities
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in social work, counselling, human resources, or related discipline (or equivalent professional experience)
- Background in employment services, career development, or workforce programming
- Strong listening, communication, and interpersonal abilities
- Experience supporting clients from varied socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and job search databases
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- Commitment to confidentiality, professional ethics, and client wellbeing
