About the Role

As our Elementary Library Media Specialist, you'll serve as both librarian and information literacy educator—guiding students in grades K–5 to discover, evaluate, and effectively use information resources. You'll design engaging learning experiences that integrate literature, research skills, and digital literacy while partnering with classroom teachers to support the district's academic curriculum.

What You'll Do

  • Curate and manage the elementary school library collection, including print and digital resources that reflect diverse student interests and reading levels
  • Teach information literacy, research, and digital citizenship skills aligned to state standards
  • Collaborate with teachers to design thematic units and research projects that enhance classroom instruction
  • Conduct engaging library lessons and reading promotions that inspire curiosity and a lifelong love of learning
  • Help students select age-appropriate materials and foster reading fluency across all proficiency levels
  • Maintain technology and circulation systems, ensuring equitable access to library resources
  • Support school events, book fairs, and literacy initiatives that build community engagement

What We're Looking For

  • Valid New Jersey teaching certification in Library Media or equivalent credential
  • Demonstrated expertise in elementary library science, collection development, and information literacy instruction
  • Strong proficiency with library management systems and educational technology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and families
  • Passion for fostering reading engagement and supporting diverse learners
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail in managing library resources and programs
