About the Role

As Director of Global Clinical Trial Operations, you will report directly to senior leadership and independently direct the execution, coordination, and governance of clinical trial operations across our research portfolio. This strategic leadership position shapes how Merck delivers breakthrough medicines through disciplined, compliant clinical research and pharmacovigilance. Working remotely, you will engage with global cross-functional teams across multiple therapeutic areas to establish best practices, manage complex timelines, and ensure regulatory excellence.

What You'll Do

• Direct and oversee the strategic planning and execution of clinical trial operations, managing end-to-end processes from protocol development through trial closeout
• Lead project management office functions to support global clinical trials, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and company standards
• Build and mentor high-performing teams across functional areas including operations, compliance, data management, and quality assurance
• Identify and implement operational efficiencies, risk mitigation strategies, and process improvements across the clinical trial lifecycle
• Establish governance frameworks, KPIs, and reporting mechanisms to track trial performance and portfolio health
• Partner with regulatory affairs, medical affairs, and biostatistics to ensure scientific rigor and operational feasibility
• Manage budgets, timelines, and resource allocation for complex, multi-site global trials

What We're Looking For

• Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or advanced science degree) or equivalent professional experience in clinical operations or project management
• 10+ years of progressive experience leading clinical trial operations, clinical project management, or related healthcare operations functions
• Demonstrated expertise in regulatory compliance, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and global trial governance
• Proven ability to lead matrix organizations, influence cross-functional partners, and drive organizational change
• Strategic mindset with strong business acumen and operational excellence focus
• Advanced skills in project management, process optimization, and data analytics
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
