About the Role

As Director of Field Medical Excellence, you'll establish and execute the strategic vision for scientific engagement across our field medical team. What You'll Do

• Define and communicate the strategic direction and performance standards for field medical professionals, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and industry best practices
• Build and implement comprehensive development programs that strengthen clinical knowledge, communication skills, and professional effectiveness across the field team
• Establish metrics and accountability frameworks to measure impact, track progress, and demonstrate value of field medical initiatives to stakeholders
• Lead cross-functional collaboration with medical affairs, sales, research, and commercial teams to integrate field medical insights into broader organizational strategy
• Advise senior leadership on market trends, competitive positioning, and emerging opportunities within scientific exchange and medical education
• Model excellence in scientific engagement and represent Merck's commitment to ethical, evidence-based healthcare communication

What We're Looking For

• Advanced degree in medicine, life sciences, or related field, with significant experience in pharmaceutical medical affairs, clinical operations, or healthcare leadership
• Proven track record building and leading high-performing teams in complex, regulated environments
• Deep knowledge of field medical best practices, scientific exchange principles, and healthcare regulatory requirements
• Strategic thinking combined with operational excellence—able to translate vision into measurable outcomes
• Exceptional communication and influence skills; comfortable engaging with physicians, executives, and cross-functional partners at all levels
