Director Environmental, Health and Safety

GAF is seeking a Director of Environmental, Health and Safety to lead our safety initiatives and compliance efforts at our Springfield, Hampden County facility. This full-time position offers the opportunity to shape safety culture across our operations and make a measurable impact on workplace wellbeing and regulatory adherence.

About the Role

As Director of Environmental, Health and Safety, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs that protect our workforce and ensure operational compliance. You will lead our safety team, establish protocols that minimize workplace hazards, and foster a safety-first culture that permeates every level of our organization. This leadership role requires strategic thinking paired with hands-on commitment to making our Springfield facility a model for safe, responsible operations.

What You'll Do

• Design and maintain environmental health and safety policies, procedures, and standards aligned with federal and state regulations
• Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses across facilities and work processes
• Lead investigations into incidents and near-misses, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to all staff levels
• Manage regulatory compliance, audits, and documentation requirements
• Collaborate with operations, facilities, and human resources to integrate safety into daily workflows
• Monitor safety metrics and performance indicators, reporting progress to leadership
• Build and mentor a strong safety team committed to continuous improvement

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience in environmental, health and safety leadership or management
• Deep knowledge of OSHA regulations and occupational safety standards
• Strong communication and team-building abilities
• Experience developing and implementing safety training programs
• Analytical mindset with the ability to identify risks and drive preventive solutions
• Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Professional certifications such as CSP, OHST, or comparable credentials preferred
