About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing fintech organization seeking a Data Scientist specializing in fraud detection to join their team. This is a remote role based in London, offering the chance to work on high-impact machine learning systems that protect millions of users across a rapidly scaling financial platform.

In this position, you'll sit at the intersection of data science, product, and engineering—building the models, experiments, and detection systems that safeguard customers and merchants from emerging fraud threats. Your work will directly influence how the organization detects and responds to financial crime across their ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Prototype, evaluate, and deploy machine learning models for fraud detection; maintain ongoing monitoring and retraining cycles
  • Design and execute experiments to measure the impact of fraud interventions, balancing customer experience with loss reduction
  • Analyze fraud typologies across product lines to inform prioritization and investment decisions
  • Build and maintain anomaly detection systems to surface novel fraud vectors before they scale
  • Collaborate closely with fraud operations, engineers, product managers, and data analysts to translate model outputs into production-grade mitigations

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

  • Degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or similar)
  • 3+ years of experience in data science, decision science, or risk analytics within fraud, payments, or financial crime
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying machine learning models in production environments
  • Strong foundation in data science fundamentals: experimentation, statistical inference, model evaluation, and feature engineering
  • Experience working in fast-paced, cross-functional teams with high ownership expectations

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL; comfort working across the full model development lifecycle
  • Strong investigative instinct and ability to uncover patterns in complex datasets
  • Excellent communication skills to translate technical findings into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders

Preferred:

  • Prior fraud, risk, or financial services experience is a strong plus
