Data Engineer, Measurement & Reporting

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential streaming advertising technology company that is redefining performance marketing at scale. Our client processes over 500,000 messages per second and manages petabyte-scale infrastructure serving thousands of active advertisers. They need a senior data engineer who can own the measurement and reporting pipeline that ensures every dashboard number is accurate, current, and performant.

This is production ownership from day one. You'll work on distributed data problems where schema changes are infrastructure challenges, query optimization directly impacts customer experience, and there are no off-the-shelf answers. You'll collaborate directly with platform engineers and have the autonomy to push back on requests that don't scale.

Responsibilities

• Ship schema changes across petabyte-scale tables without breaking downstream consumers or client-facing reporting
• Optimize the reporting stack for speed and cost, working with ClickHouse and Cube to serve the client UI with low latency and controlled compute spend
• Transform new product features into production data models, from raw Kafka and Iceberg sources through to advertiser-facing metrics
• Trace data discrepancies back through the stack to source systems and implement root-cause fixes
• Proactively identify and resolve scaling and data-quality issues before they escalate to incidents
• Provide technical judgment on feasibility and cost, including saying "not yet" or "not this way" when appropriate

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 5+ years in production data engineering, with ownership of pipelines supporting real users and on-call responsibilities
• Strong SQL and schema design experience at scale, where design decisions have measurable performance impact
• Production experience with an orchestrator (Dagster, Airflow, Prefect) and dbt or equivalent transformation framework
• At least one concrete optimization win you can discuss in detail: the problem, your solution, the metrics before and after, and your reasoning
• Systems-level technical depth—our client's technical interviews focus on how things work underneath, not puzzle-solving
• Strong judgment to turn ambiguous requirements into actionable plans quickly

Nice to Have:

• Production experience with ClickHouse or another columnar store at serious scale (Druid, Pinot, BigQuery), including partitioning, materialized views, or merge behavior
• Experience with Kafka or other streaming systems feeding a serving layer beyond nightly batch processing
• AdTech or programmatic advertising background

Location & Employment Details
