The Saco School Department is seeking a Full-Time Custodian to support the facilities team at Fairfield School, with a position posted April 1, 2026, a start date of May 1, 2026, and applications accepted through April 17, 2026.

About the Role

This position plays a key part in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The custodian works under the direction of the facilities manager to ensure that all school spaces are well‑kept and ready for daily instructional activities.

What You'll Do

• Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal throughout classrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, replenish supplies, and ensure fixtures are in working order.
• Maintain floors by stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet care as needed.
• Carry out minor maintenance duties including changing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, and reporting larger repair needs to maintenance staff.
• Set up and break down rooms for meetings, events, and extracurricular activities, arranging furniture and equipment according to requests.
• Monitor building safety by identifying hazards, keeping exits clear, and following established safety protocols when handling cleaning chemicals.
• Assist students, teachers, and visitors with custodial needs as they arise, providing courteous and responsive service.

What We're Looking For

• Ability to follow detailed cleaning schedules and safety guidelines.
• Physical stamina to lift, push, and pull equipment and supplies, and to remain on feet for extended periods.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning agents and proper usage to protect surfaces and ensure personal safety.
• Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
• Previous experience in custodial, janitorial, or facilities maintenance is preferred but not required.
• Good communication skills and a willingness to work as part of a team.
