Commercial Lines Field Underwriter (Minneapolis, Minnesota)

Grange Insurance Careers is hiring a Commercial Lines Field Underwriter to join our Minneapolis, Hennepin County team. In this full-time role, you'll evaluate business insurance applications, conduct property inspections, and assess commercial risk while working directly with our agents and business clients across the Twin Cities area.

About the Role

As a Commercial Lines Field Underwriter, you'll play a critical part in the underwriting process by gathering on-site information, analyzing business operations, and making informed decisions on commercial insurance coverage. You'll work independently and as part of a team dedicated to supporting Minnesota's business community with the protection they need.

What You'll Do

• Conduct field inspections of commercial properties and business operations to assess risk exposure
• Review commercial insurance applications and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness
• Interview business owners and managers to understand their operations, exposures, and coverage needs
• Prepare detailed inspection reports and underwriting recommendations
• Collaborate with insurance agents and internal underwriting teams to resolve coverage questions
• Stay current with commercial insurance guidelines and policy requirements
• Travel to customer locations throughout the Minneapolis metro area as needed

What We're Looking For

• Experience in commercial insurance underwriting, risk assessment, or related field
• Knowledge of commercial lines products (general liability, property, workers' compensation, etc.)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail and ability to work with complex information
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel for on-site inspections
• Ability to work independently and manage your time effectively
• A commitment to providing excellent service to agents and customers
