The Opportunity
The Savannah Police Department's Citizens Police Academy is built on a simple principle: residents who understand law enforcement make better community partners. Over 12 weeks, you'll sit down with police officers from every division of the department, hear their stories, and learn the reasoning behind their work. Guest speakers from partner agencies across the criminal justice system will walk you through investigations, community programs, and the larger ecosystem of public safety. This is an informal but substantive look at what it takes to protect and serve Garden and Chatham County.
Your Responsibilities
As a program participant, you will:
- Complete all 12 weekly sessions throughout the program
- Attend in-person meetings to interact with Savannah Police Department officers and staff
- Listen to and engage with presentations from various criminal justice agencies and specialists
- Ask questions and participate in discussions about police operations and community safety
- Learn how different units of the Savannah Police Department fulfill their missions
