Chief Engineer

We're hiring a Chief Engineer at Shawnee Lodge & Cottages, a premier resort and conference destination located in West Portsmouth, Scioto County. This is a full-time leadership position responsible for all engineering and facilities operations that keep our property running at peak performance.

About This Position

As Chief Engineer at Shawnee Lodge & Cottages, you'll direct the technical infrastructure and maintenance operations that ensure guest satisfaction and operational excellence. Our sprawling resort includes 50 guest rooms, 24 two-bedroom cabins, the Smokehouse Restaurant & Tecumseh Lounge, indoor and outdoor pools, and six event spaces totaling 3,444 square feet—accommodating conferences, weddings, and gatherings for up to 250 people. You'll lead a team managing HVAC systems, electrical work, plumbing, pool operations, building automation, and preventive maintenance across all facilities. This role demands strategic leadership, hands-on technical knowledge, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a dynamic hospitality environment.

Your Responsibilities

• Oversee daily engineering and maintenance operations across all resort buildings, guest accommodations, and public areas
• Direct preventive maintenance programs and emergency repairs to minimize downtime and maintain guest comfort
• Manage HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and pool systems to ensure safety, compliance, and reliability
• Lead capital improvement projects and facility upgrades in line with resort priorities
• Ensure all systems meet building codes, health standards, and safety regulations
• Monitor utility costs and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency
• Collaborate with housekeeping, restaurant, event planning, and other departments on facility needs

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of engineering or facilities management experience in hospitality or large complex properties
• Valid Chief Engineer license or professional certification (state-specific requirements apply)
• Demonstrated expertise in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
• Strong knowledge of building codes and safety compliance standards
• Proven leadership and team management abilities
• Technical problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
• Excellent communication and customer-focused approach
