Chemical Hygiene Officer

About the Role

As the Chemical Hygiene Officer at Nationwide Children's Hospital, you will serve as the institution's technical authority on chemical safety and laboratory regulatory compliance. You will own the design and ongoing administration of the organization's Chemical Hygiene Plan, working to keep every laboratory environment safe, compliant, and prepared.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, roll out, and uphold a comprehensive Chemical Hygiene Plan across all laboratory settings.
• Perform thorough hazard assessments to identify and mitigate chemical risks before they become incidents.
• Maintain adherence to OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and applicable state safety regulations.
• Lead investigations into laboratory chemical incidents and recommend corrective measures.
• Design and deliver hands-on technical training programs focused on laboratory chemical safety.
• Provide expert guidance and leadership to laboratory teams on safe chemical handling and compliance practices.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory chemical safety principles and best practices.
• Strong familiarity with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and state regulatory frameworks.
• Experience conducting hazard assessments and investigating safety incidents.
• Proven ability to develop policies and deliver effective technical training.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills for advising staff across the institution.
