About the Role

As a Catholic Priest and Chaplain at UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, you will serve as a vital member of the pastoral care team, delivering sacramental ministry and spiritual support to Catholic patients, their families, and staff. In this full-time per diem position, you will respond to the immediate spiritual needs of patients across inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring that faith and compassion remain central to our healing mission.

What You'll Do

• Administer sacraments—including the Eucharist, reconciliation, and anointing of the sick—to Catholic patients
• Offer pastoral counseling and spiritual guidance to patients and families navigating illness, recovery, and end-of-life care
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, social workers, and interdisciplinary care teams to address patients' spiritual and emotional wellbeing
• Celebrate Mass and lead prayer services for patients, families, and staff members
• Support patients in reconciling their Catholic faith with their healthcare experience
• Document pastoral interactions and spiritual assessments in accordance with institutional protocols
• Maintain strict confidentiality and respect the spiritual autonomy of every individual served

What We're Looking For

• Valid ordination as a Catholic priest in good canonical standing with the Roman Catholic Church
• Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) certification or equivalent healthcare chaplaincy experience
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to listen and respond with compassion
• Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems and the role spiritual care plays in holistic patient outcomes
• Flexibility to work evening, night, and weekend shifts as needed in a per diem capacity
• Commitment to culturally humble, person-centered spiritual care for all patients and families
